Sony Hires Former Homeland Security Official to Head Information Security

According to Reuters, Sony has hired Philip Reitinger, the former director of the U.S. National Cyber Security Center (a division of the Department of Homeland Security) to head their new position of Chief Information Security Officer. The hiring move comes in the wake of this past April’s hacker-induced PlayStation Network outage, which drew wide criticism towards Sony’s lackluster network security practices and their handling of the break-in itself.

Reitinger will be based in Washington and has previously worked with Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Defense.
