Queen drummer Roger Taylor is sick and tired of bad tributes to his old band. And as Rolling Stone reported, he’s going to take matters into his own hands for a 2012 tour.
“A lot of these things are not up to scratch and so we want to do it properly,” Taylor told Rolling Stone.
So, with the hope of keeping Queen’s music alive, the group is putting together an online competition to form a band for “Queen Extravaganza.” Queen Extravaganza is a 2012 tour that features a tribute band paired with unseen footage of the group and stage production that you’d associate with a Queen show. You can audition or judge auditions over at the Queen Extravaganza website.
Taylor said in the article that although the band’s popularity and legacy has still grown since frontman Freddie Mercury’s 1991 death, the band has struggled to find an appropriate way to bring their show to the stage. The group most recently toured with Paul Rodgers, which Taylor says in the article is unlikely to happen again.
