PlayStation Vita Release Date Announced

Today at Sony’s pre-TGS conference at the Tokyo Game Show, they made a slew of announcements, including the Japanese release date of their new handheld system, the Playstation Vita. The system, which was on full display, will be released this year on Dec. 17 in Sony’s native country of Japan. Unfortunately, there has been no announcement about release dates in North America or Europe.

PlayStation Vita’s interface was shown, which, unsurprisingly, takes huge cues from mobile devices such as the iPhone. The touch-screen handheld, which Sony is more commonly calling a “device,” competes quite clearly with devices like the iPod Touch in that it can handle all sorts of media as well as connect to 3G networks.

Furthermore, Sony announced that the Vita will launch with more than 100 games, including a variety of remakes and collections like Metal Gear Solid Collection HD and Final Fantasy X HD.
