It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Review: “Frank Reynolds' Little Beauties" (7.03)

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Review: “Frank Reynolds' Little Beauties" (7.03)

Probably one of the worst ideas ever is to put The Gang from _It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia_ near, around or in charge of children. In the third episode of the season “Frank Reynolds’ Little Beauties”, not only are they put in charge of about a dozen children, but they also have to put on a beauty pageant. And as usual, when the gang tries to do something right, everything goes horribly wrong. read more

Kirby Mass Attack Review (DS)

Kirby Mass Attack Review (DS)

Mario’s name has been plastered on more box covers than perhaps any other figure in gaming history, yet over the last decade, Kirby has consistently been Nintendo’s most malleable hero. While many of the series offerings over the past several years maintain the side-scrolling 2D aesthetic of the older, “traditional” Kirby games, most introduce some sort of singular key mechanic exclusive to that entry, whether it’s the stylus-drawn paths of Kirby’s Canvas Curse on Nintendo DS, or the yarn-based worlds and abilities seen in last year’s Wii release, Kirby’s Epic Yarn.... read more

How to Be a Gentleman Review: "Pilot" (Episode 1.01)

How to Be a Gentleman Review: "Pilot" (Episode 1.01)

David Hornsby (Rickety Cricket from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) has adapted a non-fiction novel that outlines, well, exactly how to be a gentleman in an easy to read contemporary guide to common courtesy. CBS’How To Be a Gentleman centers on Hornsby as Andrew Carlson, an uptight magazine columnist and his friendship with Kevin Dillon’s (Entourage) Bert Lansing. Bert’s a man’s man who is an Iraq War veteran turned personal trainer. Their differences provide comical tension, but the question is whether or not their relationship will be able to provide enough comedy to back an entire sitcom. read more

Community Review: "Geography of Global Conflict" (Episode 3.02)

Community Review: "Geography of Global Conflict" (Episode 3.02)

From the start, Community has been less about the experience of going to a community college (which seems to require a great deal of exaggeration to make interesting) than about throwing a group of interesting characters together who would otherwise never meet and watching how they grow and learn together. It’s like, as NBC’s ad campaign used to continually remind us, The Breakfast Club, just over an extended period of time. But since season one the show really hasn’t known what to do with the Annie/Jeff relationship and that largely comes to a head here and is also the... read more

Sylvia Robinson: 1936 - 2011

Sylvia Robinson: 1936 - 2011

The “mother of hip-hop” of Sugar Hill Records fame, passed away yesterday morning in a New Jersey hospital at age 75. Robinson launched the famous record label with her husband and signed the earliest hip hop stars like Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five. As a singer and producer though, she’s perhaps most famous for her contribution in Sugar Hill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight”, which revolutionized the idea of “sampling.” Robinson was also responsible for Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s first and most successful single, “The Message”. Watch a live performance of “Rapper’s Delight” below: ... read more

Person of Interest Review: "Ghost" (Episode 1.02)

Person of Interest Review: "Ghost" (Episode 1.02)

With the second episode of Person of Interest, entitled “Ghost”, we start off with what the show believes to be the action that people care about. Jim Caviezel’s Reese enters an elevator, saving a man who was about to be attacked by two men, possibly murdered, and then moving on without anyone around noticing. Right after, we get to what makes the show interesting, the actual person of interest for audiences, Michael Emerson’s Finch, flashing back to 2002 and discussing his machine that finds the people in danger. The problem is, _Person of Interest_ needs to realize who truly are the people audiences are interested in and focus on them. read more

Aim High Web Series To Use Facebook Input

Aim High Web Series To Use Facebook Input

Aim High is a webseries from Warner Bros. about a high school student (Jackson Rathbone of Twilight) who is also a government operative once school gets out. So based on that premise, the series doesn't sound like anything to revolutionary. However, the series, which will debut on Facebook on October 18, will reportedly use your Facebook info such as your name, pictures, and friends in the show itself. Although its not quite clear how this will work itself out, when you are viewing the show through the special Facebook edition, some things mentioned on your own Facebook page will pop up throughout the show. read more

Whitney Review: "First Date" (Episode 1.02)

Whitney Review: "First Date" (Episode 1.02)

At one point early on in the second episode of Whitney a couple teases Whitney that they haven’t “totally given up hope” and unfortunately, that’s what NBC and its audience should. Normally I’d say to give a new show a chance and stick it out. However, this show just keeps giving reasons not to watch it again and very little reward if you actually stay for the entire episode. read more
