Elizabeth Olsen (and by now you should all know she is Mary-Kate and Ashley’s younger sister) is already getting Oscar buzz over her roll as Martha in Martha Marcy May Marlene which premiered at Sundance, showed at Cannes and will receive a limited release on October 7.
The thriller is about a girl who escaped an abusive cult, but fears they still may be watching. The film examines the pain Martha feels from her memories and the paranoia that ensues. She questions, “Do you ever have that feeling where you can’t tell if something is a memory or if it’s something you dreamed?”
This is Olsen’s first leading role and one of her first roles ever. This year she was in the low budget comedy Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding and Silent House. Also starring in the film are Sarah Paulson, Hugh Dancy, John Hawkes and Brady Corbert.
