Chris Thile Collaborates with Yo-Yo Ma for New Album

Cello virtuoso Yo-Yo Ma will join mandolinist Chris Thile, fiddler Stuart Duncan and bassist Edgar Meyer for the album Goat Rodeo Sessions. The album is set for an Oct. 25 release on Sony Masterworks.

The cross-genre project features two vocal tracks from Thile and Aoife O’Donovan, the vocalist for bluegrass group Crooked Still. The album was influenced by styles that include classical, Irish and bluegrass.

“In the end, what we’re trying to do is simply make music that transcends whatever roots or categories or backgrounds that it starts from—that just exists as something that we’re trying to express, through our community of values, as a moment in time creating very special music,” Yo-Yo Ma said about the project.

You can see more information on the project at Yo-Yo Ma’s website.
