Ben Stiller is set to move from directing hilarious comedies into the horror genre. 20th Century Fox has purchased the rights to a spec script from Helen Childress, which Stiller is set to direct.
The Mountain will reteam Stiller and Childress, who wrote Reality Bites, and is based on characters from Summer, a gothic novel written by Edith Wharton. Deadline reports the plot will be set in the early 1900s and “revolves around a young woman who struggles to confront her destiny after stumbling upon a mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past.”
This project is one of the many Stiller is currently working on for Fox, along with developing an adaptation of a children’s book along with Childress and filming a comedy alongside Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn.
