Coroner: Alcohol Killed Amy Winehouse

Coroner: Alcohol Killed Amy Winehouse

As TMZ reports, Amy Winehouse’s cause of death has been determined to be a direct result of over-consumption of alcohol. Coroner Suzanne Greenaway told the website that Winehouse’s July 23 death was ruled to be a “death by misadventure,” and she stated that Winehouse voluntarily consumed the alcohol. The singer was 27 when she died.

A statement from the Winehouse family said “It is some relief to finally find out what happened to Amy. We understand there was alcohol in her system when she passed away, it is likely a build up of alcohol in her system over a number of days.

“The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time. She had started drinking again that week after a period of abstinence.”

You can watch Winehouse’s final release, a duet with Tony Bennett titled “Body and Soul,” below.
