Fox Picks Up The Magicians Drama
Fox has purchased the rights to Lev Grossman’s The Magicians with the intention of turning it into an hour-long drama for next season, reports Deadline. Grossman’s novel has quickly garnered the description of “Harry Potter for adults," and the agreement includes a script commitment with a major penalty clause.
Magicians follows a group of 20-somethings who study magic in New York City. It will be adapted by X-Men: First Class and Thor co-writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Producer Michael London (Milk) will produce the drama alongside Shawn Levy and Michael Adelstein.
The first season is expected to follow the events of the novel, and if picked up the writers would likely follow Grossman’s sequel The Magician King, which was released in August.
