A few days ago, dream pop band Mazzy Star announced their return to the music industry after a decade-plus hiatus with a double-A-side single, Common Burn / Lay Myself Down, available Oct. 31.
Just yesterday, both of the new singles appeared for streaming online, with “Lay Myself Down” appearing first on Pitchfork and “Common Burn” spreading after an early leak on Spotify.
Vocalist Hope Sandoval has kept herself busy during Mazzy Star’s hiatus with her own group, Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions, but she and guitarist David Roback — the duo at the core of Mazzy Star — haven’t made music together in 15 years, until now. The group will release a new studio album and tour in 2012.
