In the tradition of every show from the 1960s getting a film adaptation (Bewitched, Get Smart, The Flintstones, etc.) along with the long history of flicks about talking animals, Mister Ed is getting the big screen treatment.
Fox 2000 has acquired the rights to the show about a man named Wilbur who owns a talking horse named Mister Ed that only he can hear talk. The show ran for 145 episodes between 1961 and 1966. The 50th anniversary of the show’s first episode occurred last week. The new film will feature a real horse, but will use CGI to animate the horse’s mouth.
The film will be produced by Elizabeth Gabler, who also produced another horse-based film, 2006’s Flicka.
