New <i>Mortal Kombat</i> Movie Coming Soon

It’s been years since the films Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation hit theatres, but now a new Mortal Kombat film is on the way.

The news comes after a short film entitled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth was released last year, showing what a Batman Begins-esque version of a Mortal Kombat film could look like. The director, Kevin Tancharoen ended up securing the rights to release a nine episode web series called Mortal Kombat: Legacy.
New Line Cinema has now announced that Tancharoen will take the helm of a new live-action film based on the popular video game series.

The film will also be written by Oren Uziel, who worked on the original short film and the new feature length film is due for a 2013 release.
