Seven years ago, writer-director-star Shane Carruth released Primer, a film that only cost him $7,000 and won him the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Now the talented filmmaker is coming back to the big screen with two different movies.
The first of these films is Upstream Color, which is being called a romantic dramatic thriller. The film is supposed to shoot in November, with little else known about the story, except a few character descriptions that are being currently cast. One includes a “intelligent and plain” woman who receives a “severe haircut change in the film” and two 12-year-olds.
The other film, A Topiary, is the story of a group of boys who discover a box that has magic powers inside. This film is also in production and is rumored to start shooting next year.
Carruth was most recently working on Brick director Rian Johnson’s newest film Looper.
