RCA Dissolving Three Subsidaries

RCA is moving to refresh its image and move forward by shutting down three of its major subsidiary labels. Artista, Jive and J will no longer carry artists like Pink, Usher or Britney Spears. Instead the parent label will take over for the extinct subsidiaries.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, RCA COO Tom Corson stated, “The concept is that there is value in branding RCA and not having it confused or diluted by other labels.”

He claims the decision was not made until the label consulted some of its major musicians to ensure they were supportive of the move. Corson further added, “The artists have all been supportive. We didn’t make this move without consulting our artists, and we haven’t had any push-back. Frankly, they’re the brand. We’re defined by our artists.”

RCA, who is owned by Sony Entertainment, is the second-oldest record label behind Columbia, who happens to also be Sony property. There is no timeline for the dissolution of Artista, Jive and J, but it is expected to start soon.
