Robert De Niro Joins the Cast of Killing Season

Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro has joined director Mark Steven Johnson’s upcoming action thriller Killing Season alongside John Travolta, according to Total Film.

The project was originally titled Shrapnel and was set to feature Travolta and Nicolas Cage in an action reunion reminiscent of the wildly successful and critically acclaimed 1997 thriller Face/Off, but both Cage and the original director John McTiernan (The Hunt for Red October, Predator, Die Hard) have since left the project.

Killing Season is based on a Black List screenplay written by Evan Daugherty (Snow White And The Huntsman) and sees De Niro as military vet vacationing at an Appalachian cabin where he encounters Travolta, who plays a European tourist who is actually a Serbian soldier out for revenge. The two inevitably duke it out in the woods. Production begins on Jan. 16.
