The first trailer for Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, hit the internet today. For a time it seemed that the film wouldn’t be made amid protest in Bosnia which arose from a false rumor that the plot involved a female Bosnian prisoner falling in love with her Serbian rapist. After showing local officials a more complete script, the rumors were put to rest and filming was allowed to proceed.
In the Land of Blood and Honey is a sweeping, troubled love story set during the Bosnian War. Jolie hired local actors for the cast, specifically choosing unknown actors rather than Hollywood notables with eastern European accents. The film stars Zana Marjanović and Goran Kostić, and is set for release on December 23.
