Asa Butterfield Cast in Ender's Game, Harrison Ford Courted For Role

According to Variety, young actor Asa Butterfield, the star of Scorsese’s recent film Hugo, has been officially cast in the lead role of child military genius Ender Wiggin in the upcoming Ender’s Game film adaptation directed by Gavin Hood and produced by Odd Lot Entertainment.

With the lead role filled, the next character that the team is looking to cast is the adult lead, Colonel Hyrum Graff. Previously Viggo Mortensen was sought but talks fell through, leading to Harrison Ford emerging as one of the top prospects, among others.

Orson Scott Card’s original Ender’s Game novel was released in 1985 to wide acclaim, winning both the Hugo and Nebula awards. Various parties have tried unsuccessfully to adapt the film throughout the past decade, but all previous efforts collapsed. The film adaptation has a projected release date of March 15, 2013.
