Tom Rothman, the co-chairman of Fox Entertainment, has stated that the company plans on making sequels to two of this year’s biggest hits, X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Rothman also stated that he hoped that they would be able to bring back directors Rupert Wyatt and Matthew Vaughn for the sequels to Rise of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men: First Class, respectively. Rothman said that before they go to work on the pair of sequels, they have to find scripts worthy of following up these two reboots.
James McAvoy, who starred in First Class as the young Charles Xavier, has stated that he would be excited to play Xavier through this point in his life where he is recently crippled. He also said that Vaughn had some interesting ideas for a sequel.
Rothman has also stated that he would like to see Andy Serkis, who did the motion capture work for the main role of the ape Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, receive an Oscar nomination. This would be a first for an actor to receive a nomination for a role in which the actor never actually physically appears.
