Louisville's ear X-Tacy Closes

It’s another sad day for independent record retailers. ear X-Tacy, Louisville’s most-iconic record store for 26 years, has closed. Courier-Journal reported yesterday that the store announced its closure three days after shutting its doors with no explanation.

“It has been a dream come true…actually, a dream exceeded, to be part of your musical lives here in Louisville for the last 26 years,” ear X-tacy owner John D. Timmons said in a statement on the store’s website. “My life was changed forever, and guided by the power of music since I can remember. Music has been the soul, the heart, the passion of my life for my entire 56 years.”

In the letter, Timmons focused more on his good memories of the store rather than the business aspect of the situation, and he had a positive outlook on the music industry throughout the statement. You can read Timmons’ statement at ear X-tacy’s website.
