Yesterday was a whirlwind day for the Oscars: first Brett Ratner resigned as producer and then Eddie Murphy stepped down as host. We reported that the search for a new producer and host would start, but nothing was expected to come of the search so soon. It looks like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has found their producer in Imagine Entertainment co-founder and critically acclaimed director Brian Grazer, Deadline reports. Grazer will have help producing the telecast from television veteran Don Mischer.
Regardless of reports saying the Academy wanted to woo Murphy back into the hosting position, Grazer would rather he not return. “We are not going back to him. No way,” Grazer stated shortly after the announcement that he would step in as producer.
The Academy issued a press release stating the excitement the two producers had about working together and highlighting Grazer’s Oscar career, which includes a win for Best Picture in 2001 thanks to A Beautiful Mind.
This will be the first Oscars produced by Grazer.
