Portlandia to Feature Johnny Marr

As if having Carrie Brownstein (formerly of Sleater-Kinney and now Wild Flag) acting in and writing Portlandia wasn’t good enough, now we have word that Johnny Marr is on board to be in Season 2 of the IFC comedy show. According to the New York Magazine, Marr, the lead guitarist of bands like The Smiths and The Cribs, will be playing a character that is “non-musical” and “some kind of ambiguous hybrid of himself and a character.”

Co-creator Fred Armisen let the word out a few days ago at a benefit, saying that the longer 10-episode length of Season 2 gave them “more opportunities to come up with more characters, particularly roles for musicians to play.” Season 1 of Portlandia featured guests of musical fame like Colin Meloy, James Mercer, Sarah McLachlan, Corin Tucker and Jenny Conlee.

Although the second season doesn’t start up until January 2012, you can get the first season of the show on DVD when it comes out on Dec. 6.
