Watch The First Grand Theft Auto V Trailer

Watch The First Grand Theft Auto V Trailer

As promised, the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V went live this morning from Rockstar Games. The trailer revealed a few key things about the new entry in the popular open-world, action game including the game’s location, time period, and even possible main character.

The narrator of the trailer begins the video talking about why he decided to move to across the country: the weather, the movies, the magic. What this means is that the game will take place in Rockstar’s fictional West Coast state, San Andreas. The location was first visited back in the 2004 game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and featured a huge map that included three entire cities to explore. Other details extrapolated from the trailer also reveal that the time period looks to be in modern times with possible references to the recession and economic downturn (the foreclosure signs, the unemployed).

Later on in the video (around 0:40), we are given a profile view of the narrator, who many have suspected to be Tommy Vercetti, the main protagonist from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Aside from looking and sounding the part, Vercetti’s desire to retire and move away from Vice City seems to fit pretty well with the narration in this trailer (although this would put Vercetti in his mid-60s). The idea of a bringing back a main character from a previous Grand Theft Auto entry sounds like a great idea, especially when it’s an awesome character like Tommy Vercetti.

There’s no mention of a release date or even what platforms the game will be available for, but the game seems to be running on the current generation’s consoles (Xbox 360, PS3), which suggests a release date within the next couple years. Check out the whole trailer below:
