2012 Grammy Award Nominations Announced

Last night, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences unleashed their nominees for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, and — perhaps still feeling the glow from last year’s huge Arcade Fire victory — the award show known more for rewarding pop superstars and beyond-their-prime classic rock icons has shown a surprising amount of love to some of our favorite independent artists.

Bon Iver scored Record of the Year and Song of the Year nominations for “Holocene,” as well as a Best New Artist nod (shh, no one tell the Academy how many years ago For Emma, Forever Ago came out) and a Best Alternative Music Album nomination. Mumford & Sons snagged Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song nominations for their single “The Cave,” which, despite being released in February 2010 on their Sigh No More album, is somehow eligible for the 2012 awards.

Wilco, The Civil Wars, Radiohead, My Morning Jacket, Robyn, The Black Keys, The Decemberists, Adele, Foster The People and Death Cab for Cutie were also among the nominated artists. Kanye West led the pack with seven nominations. For a complete list of nominees, click here, or check out the four major categories below.

The Grammys will air on CBS on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. EST.
