Helen Mirren May Play Hitchcock's Wife in New Film
For several years, work has been underway on a film based on famed director Alfred Hitchcock and his time making the classic film Psycho. Now it seems like the movie is moving forward as Helen Mirren may be signing on to play Hitchcock’s wife, Alma Reville.
The film has been in development for four years at Paramount but has since moved to Fox Searchlight. The film was originally in development with Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee, but since the project has been passed on to Sasha Gervasi, director of the documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil. Anthony Hopkins signed on to play Hitchcock when Murphy was involved and has remained attached to the project.
The film is based on the book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, and is being written by Rebello along with John McLaughlin, who worked on Black Swan.
This news comes soon after the announcement that BBC2 will be making a TV film entitled The Girl, which will tell the story of Hitchcock’s relationship with his The Birds star Tippi Hedren. The film will star Toby Jones as Hitchcock and Sienna Miller as Hendren.
