The Drive-By Truckers announced today that long-time bassist Shonna Tucker would be leaving the band. In a statement, DBT frontman Patterson Hood said that the band would continue without Tucker. Tucker joined the band in 2003 and played on “some of (their) best recordings,” Hood said. This comes after the 2007 departure of guitarist Jason Isbell, who was formerly married to Tucker.
From the sounds of the releases the split was amicable, and it seems as if Tucker isn’t done with music quite yet.
“I can’t express how much you all mean to me,” Tucker said in a statement online, later adding “I am, without a doubt, not done. I will have a website up and running very soon so that we can keep in touch. I have a whole lot left to say and do, and I can’t wait to hear what all of you are up to. This is very difficult, so I’ll leave you with this… for now…”
Hood said that Tucker logged more than 1,000 shows with the band, and said that “her charm and spark will be irreplaceable.”
In the mean time, DBT does have some shows coming up, and David Barbe, who has known the band since 2000, will be filling in on bass.
