Taylor Swift has released a new song from The Hunger Games iTunes, and it features Paste favorites The Civil Wars. Indeed it sounds more like a Civil Wars song than the typical Swift fare.
Recorded on Nov. 19, in the home studio of producer T Bone Burnett, “Safe & Sound” was co-written by Swift, Burnett and The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams and John Paul White.
“We recently collaborated with T-Bone Burnett on a few projects, including an original song for the upcoming soundtrack for the new motion picture, The Hunger Games,” Williams told Paste via email. “We had an amazingly soulful, organic, productive time with him. So we were honored when we were asked to collaborate with him and Taylor Swift. We had a great session, surprisingly fast. So fast, we were able to hop into T-Bone’s bedroom studio, put down an acoustic track and some vocals before heading to our show at The Wiltern.”
“We would’ve never guessed the song would become the lead single for the film,” added White. “That didn’t matter to us—we were just proud of it. Each of our fingerprints was indelibly there. Within the time frame of a month, this song went from thin air, to a computer near you.”
Swift announced the song via Twitter early this morning. The film debuts March 23, and you can listen to the song here:
