Lana Del Rey Will Re-Release Lizzy Grant Debut Album
Even though the entire Internet is already sick of reading/writing about Lana Del Rey, her announcement to the BBC yesterday pretty much guaranteed that we’ll be talking about her for the rest of this year.
The much-hyped singer told the British news organization that she bought the rights to her debut release, an album recorded in 2010 under the alias (er, real name) of Lizzy Grant that also included songs from her 2008 EP Kill Kill.
That year, Grant worked with producer David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor) to make the album for $10,000. It spent two months on iTunes, but suddenly disappeared.
According to the BBC, Del Rey said, “People act like it’s so shrouded in mystery, the ‘forgotten terrible album…’ But if you look on YouTube, all 13 tracks are available with millions of views, so it’s not like no one’s heard them.”
Del Rey plans on re-releasing the record this summer. Her major-label debut, Born To Die comes out Jan. 31 on Interscope, in case you haven’t already heard it.
