Peter Jackson's West of Memphis Documentary Trailer Debuts

In August 2011, the West Memphis Three were finally freed after 18 years and 78 days in prison for a crime they maintain they never committed. In 1994, Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelly, Jr. and Jason Baldwin were convicted of murdering three young boys in 1993 in just 11 hours. There has been a shroud of doubt since the trial that the three were in fact innocent and for the past seven years, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh investigated the case.

The trailer for their documentary, West of Memphis, was released exclusively to Entertainment Weekly, which runs over four minutes to recap the entire case and reintroduce people to the circumstances surrounding the trial.

Check out the trailer for the film, which is set to premiere at Sundance, here.
