First Aid Kit’s The Lion’s Roar is on our list of albums we’re anticipating this year, and with a new music video released a few days ago, it looks like the band’s coming album is sure to be a pleaser.
Directed by Maximilla Lukacs, the new track “Emmylou” was filmed in Joshua Tree National Park, “A truly magical place,” the girls say. “It’s about the power of singing together with someone you love.”
The song is a tribute to some of First Aid Kit’s favorite country musicians that include Johnny Cash, June Carter, Gram Parsons and non other than Emmylou Harris herself. The video was filmed on Gram Parsons’ birthday, an appropriate tribute to the ones who came before.
Twangy and mystically composed with native colors as a thematic undertone, First Aid Kit brings us back to the “roots” of our own culture, influences and human nature. The video pays homage in a subtle way, yet appreciation for the ones who came before is not lost.
