Damon Albarn, Flea Album Expected in March
As previously reported, Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz fame, Flea and Fela Kuti’s drummer Tony Allen have formed an oddly named project called Rocket Juice and the Moon.
Exclaim points out that the group’s first album will be available at some time in March through Honest Jon’s Records, although it is unclear what the exact date is (The Wire reported the date as March 26, MOJO reported it as March 12).
Exclaim said the trio recorded 18 songs at Albarn’s Studio 13 in London, but also pointed out that it is unclear whether all of those tracks will make the album’s cut.
“It is all funk, groove music, music that makes you dance,” Allen told MOJO. “The audience don’t want to sit and listen, they want to move their bodies. That is crucial, and Rocketjuice & The Moon will make them do that.”
You can take a listen to some of the band’s live tracks from November here.
