And don’t worry if you can’t; we’ll be posting video of each performance.
Hometown: Chicago, Ill.
Members: JC Brooks (vocals), Billy Bungeroth (guitars), Kevin Marks (drums), Andy Rosenstein (keys) and Ben Taylor (bass)
Album: Want More (2011)
For Fans Of: Charles Bradley, The Staples Singers, Wilco
JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound went viral last year with their lovingly raucous cover of Wilco’s “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart.” That song appeared on the group’s excellent LP Want More, their first full-length album in two years. The band really does encompass elements of every genre included in their self-description of “post-punk soul,” as The Uptown Sound’s tireless rhythm section and timeless horn flourishes perfectly substantiate Brook’s passionate vocals. Austin better be ready when these Chicagoans come to play.
