If M.I.A. wasn’t a household name yesterday morning, she certainly is now. The outspoken rapper appeared with Madonna and Nicki Minaj at last night’s Super Bowl halftime show and flipped the bird to America on air. The trio was performing Madonna’s latest single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’” when the rapper said her line “I don’t give a shit,” and let loose with the gesture.
It seems like NBC wasn’t able to edit out the one-finger salute in time. The network hasn’t seen a serious slip up since Janet Jackson’s infamous slip up.
“There was a failure in NBC’s delay system,” Brian McCarty, the NFL’s vice president of communications told CNN this morning. “The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans.”
