Correction: Darren Aronofsky Not Directing Judy Garland Biopic
While it was reported on Hollywood insider site The Tracking Board (and repeated here) that Darren Aronofsky had signed on with The Weinstein Company to direct Get Happy, the upcoming Judy Garland biopic, he’s denied the news, tweeting “Judy Garland story is not true.”
While his Twitter account is not verified, the Huffington Post says it’s confirmed with Aronofsky’s publicist that it indeed is the director Tweeting from that account.
Aronofsky has a knack for stylized dramas with films like the award-winning Black Swan and his 2000 breakthrough Requiem For a Dream. The director also knows how to direct gritty, realistic films like The Wrestler.
The Tracking Board also reported that Anne Hathaway is attached to play the Wizard of Oz starlet who kept a brave face throughout her career as she battled addiction and that the script was written by Jaffe Cohen, who will adapt Gerald Clarke’s biography Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland.
No further details have been released about the film.
