Mad Men Creator to Direct First Feature Film

Matt Weiner has created arguably one of the best TV dramas in recent memory in Mad Men (read the review of the highly anticipated fifth season premiere here). Now he will make his feature film directorial debut on a film called You Are Here. The Gilbert Films production will begin shooting in North Carolina this May and is set to star Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler, according to Deadline.

“This movie has been my passion for eight years and to see it come together with Owen and Zach and Amy is a dream come true,” Weiner said in a release announcing the film. “I can’t wait to get started because the movie is about everything I care about and I’m tired of reading it out loud to my friends.”

Wilson will play a happy-go-luck bachelor while Galifianakis will play his bipolar friend who hasn’t quite grown up yet. The two go on a road trip after Galifianakis’ character’s father dies.

“We are thrilled to finally bring this project to the screen,” Gary Gilbert, a producer for the film, told Variety. “Matt is one of the brightest creative minds in television, and we are confident that this project will solidify the same reputation for him in the world of narrative film.”
