Merge Announces Record Store Day Releases

Earlier this week, Merge Records released its Record Store Day lineup for this year’s April 21 event. We checked in with Merge’s Christina Rentz, who filled us in on some of the label’s goodies.

Merge plans to press limited edition vinyl records for four of their artists—Destroyer, Richard Buckner, M. Ward and Arcade Fire. Each Record Store Day exclusive will also include a digital download code.

Destroyer’s Rubies is one that we get a lot of feedback from fans asking for this release on vinyl,” said Rentz. “We thought Record Store Day would be a great day to make it happen.”

The double LP will also be pressed on bright red vinyl, and side three will include a 20-minute bonus track remixed by Scott Morgan, which is titled “Loscil’s Rubies.”

Richard Buckner will release his first 7” for Record Store Day, which will include the tracks “Willow” and “Lost.” Additionally, the purchase will include a download coupon that allows fans to snag the digital-only cover of The Cars’ “Candy-O.”

M. Ward, whose album A Wasteland Companion is set for a release just a couple weeks before Record Store Day, will have a 7” with the album’s first single “Primitive Girl,” b-side “The Twist” and a cover of “Roll Over Beethoven.”

Lastly, Merge will have a 12” single with producer Damian Taylor and Arcade Fire’s remixes of “Sprawl II” and “Ready to Start”. The original versions of those songs appeared on Arcade Fire’s 2010 album, The Suburbs.

Take a listen to Destroyer’s “3000 Flowers” and Richard Buckner’s “Willow” below.
