Since signing with Merge Records late last year, Hospitality has been turning heads with their layered, synth and horn-laden take on pop music. While the band’s sound isn’t easily definable, the diverse instrumentation, hummable hooks and Amber Papini’s mellow, charming voice make the band’s self-titled release an album that demands repeat listens. Merge says that Hospitality has an overarching vision, but commanding singles like “Friends of Friends” and “Betty Wang” show that the tracks can speak for themselves.
