Smashing Pumpkins Announce Oceania Release Date

Although we’ve known about the new Smashing Pumpkins record Oceania since frontman Billy Corgan tweeted about it last fall, now we’ve got an official release date and a tracklist coming from EMI. The album was produced by Billy Corgan and is the next installment in the overarching 44-track Teargarden by Kaleidyscope album. The album is the Pumpkins’ first studio album since 2007’s Zeitgeist and is set to hit shelves on June 18.

In other Smashing Pumpkins news, Billy Corgan was also recently featured on the Alex Jones show while he was in Austin for SXSW. The host spoke with him for over an hour about the changing music industry, technology, corporatism and politics. Near the end of the interview, Billy describes the new record as “old-school Pumpkins mixed with prog-rock” and talks about the book he is currently writing, which he is calling a “spiritual memoir”.

If you’re a diehard Pumpkins fan and you’ve got an hour, you won’t want to miss this in-depth glance into Billy Corgan’s spiritual and political beliefs.
