Spotify Extends Free Listening Period

It’s already been nine months since Spotify launched its streaming services in the U.S. after successful runs in Scandinavia, Europe and the U.K.

Recently, though, Spotify tried to limit the amount of music users could stream to 10 hours per month (like they’ve done in other countries). But this morning, Hypebot received an email from the company stating, “We’ve been so overwhelmed by the U.S. response to Spotify that we’ve extended the honeymoon for unlimited free listening."

While this benefits Spotify users, Hypebot also reported that the company will probably lose revenue from the decision because Spotify pays music rights holders for each song stream, and advertisement funds and premium users’ fees only cover a portion of the company’s overall costs.
