The Wire, Boardwalk Empire Actor to Star as Ol' Dirty Bastard

Michael K. Williams, who played Omar on HBO’s critically acclaimed The Wire and currently stars as Chalky White on Boardwalk Empire, is set to play Ol’ Dirty Bastard in an upcoming biopic.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Williams will portray the Wu Tang Clan rapper in an upcoming biopic directed by Joaquín Baca-Asay (We Own the Night, Jay-Z’s video for “99 Problems”) to be titled Dirty White Boy.

The film centers on ODB, born Russell Jones, and his friendship with Jarred Westfield, a young VH1 production assistant, who eventually the rapper’s manager. The majority of the film focuses on their relationship and ODB’s return to stardom leading up to his fatal drug overdose in 2004.

The role of Westfield has yet to be cast, and a filming schedule has yet to be released. The screenplay was written by Brent Hoff, who knew both men while they were working on a show for VH1.
