Watch a Video About Karen O’s “Psycho Opera,” Stop the Virgens

Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O started writing music for a solo project about seven years ago. Unsure of what to do with the songs, she eventually teamed with production designer K.K. Barrett and The Creators Project to create Stop the Virgens. The “psycho opera,” which falls somewhere between musical, opera and free-form art, is described as, “An assault on the tragic joys of youth, fever dreams drenched in visual seduction, a cathartic spell spun through a cycle of nine
songs.”

The project ultimately came to fruition last year, with a limited October run at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York. Watch the 15-minute behind-the-scenes look at the Stop the Virgens production below.
