Black Sabbath's Bill Ward Confirms He Will Not Play at Reunion Shows

Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has pulled out of the group’s upcoming reunion shows, citing a “failure to agree.” The tour—which will consist of three dates beginning this Saturday in the band’s hometown of Birmingham, England, and ending with a performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 3—will mark the first time the iconic hard rockers have shared a stage since 2005.

In a long statement posted on his website, Ward explains with regret that he heard about the band’s show in Birmingham through an advertisement on the Internet, and that there had been a lot of miscommunication throughout the process of organizing the reunion shows.

“It’s sad that it’s come to this,” Ward said. “I made a solemn vow…that I would never again enter into what was, in my opinion, a totally unsatisfactory contract. I have to stand for something, and as painful as it is, I’m doing it.”
