CBGB Festival Confirms Guided by Voices, Pains of Being Pure at Heart
Back in March, we reported the sparse details announced for New York City’s CBGB Festival. And now, the inaugural event has confirmed a slew of details on dates, performers, locations and ticket badges.
Scheduled to take place July 5-8 across 30 venues, the CBGB Fest will include showcases for up and coming acts, sets from established touring groups (including Guided by Voices, Sick Of It All, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Craig Finn, Cloud Nothings and New York Dolls singer David Johansen), music business conferences, film screenings and a whiskey-tasting event.
Additionally, organizers hope that the festival will generate interest and funds to reopen a new CBGB club in downtown Manhattan. Tim Hayes, one of the investors in the project, told the New York Times that elements of the four-day event will serve as homages to the foundational venue that closed in 2006.
“We’re never going to recreate that moment in time,” he said “We’re trying to continue the idea of supporting live music, making a lot of noise and being a part of New York City. The festival is one way we can do it. Eventually the club will be another way we can do it.”
Tickets for the CBGB Festival are available now and there are many different options for passes that grant access to different elements of the festival. Head over to the event’s website for the complete breakdown.
