Charlaine Harris to Pen Final Sookie Stackhouse Book

Sookie Stackhouse devotees everywhere are shedding tears following author Charlaine Harris’ announcement that the13th book of her Southern Vampire Mysteries series, Dead Ever After, will be the last.

Harris, who’s been writing the series since 2001, told the Houston Press, “Really, I think it would be doing readers a disservice to continue writing a character when my heart wasn’t in it. I’ve loved writing Sookie, but if you see the end of the road, you see the end of the road.” Harris also says she’d like to stick to the core story rather than re-introducing long-departed marginal characters.

HBO has not changed their plans of producing the True Blood series in light of Harris’ announcement.
