Childish Gambino Collaborates with Beck for New Track

With sparse yet confident percussion, echoing pianos and some slow rapping, Beck’s musical fingerprints are all over Childish Gambino’s track “Silk Pillow,” off his yet-to-be-named forthcoming mixtape.

Beck co-produced the mid-tempo track with Childish Gambino and provides the vocals for the first minute or so, peppering his bit with choral accents in the background and vocal effects.

Lines like “Rio de Janeiro / these bitches lookin’ like Xuxa” prove that Gambino’s affinity for obscure cultural references (in this case, to the Brazilian TV host and singer) is as sharp as ever. Here’s hoping this isn’t a one-off between the two artists.

Listen to the track at Donald Glover’s website. Beck also released a track produced by Jack White today, titled “I Just Started Hating Some People Today,” which you can check out here.
