No one was more surprised to find actor, writer and director John Waters hitchhiking on a highway outside of Ohio than the guys and girls in Brooklyn-based indie band Here We Go Magic who picked him up.
In an interview with the DCist, they revealed that a lack of available hotel rooms in western Pennsylvania drove them to spend the night in eastern Ohio. The band left in the morning for the next tour stop in Indiana when they noticed a hitchhiker holding up a sign that one passenger recognized as Waters, who has a cult following and is known for his penchant for gore. The van passed him, but the driver circled around and picked him up. Waters said that he was heading for Baltimore.
In an interview with the Australian newspaper the Star-Observer, Waters once admitted that hitchhiking is “a great way to have sex.”
Here We Go Magic is currently touring in support of their latest album, A Different Ship.
