It was recently discovered that country music icon Loretta Lynn is actually three years older than was previously believed. An investigation by the Associated Press has determined that Lynn was in fact born on April 14, 1932, which makes her 80 instead of 77, the age at which most publications and websites have her listed.
The revelation is significant, as it disproves one of the key elements of Lynn’s acclaimed autobiography, Coal Miner’s Daughter. In the book, Lynn said she was married at the age of 13 and a mother of four by 18. In addition to her birth certificate, her marriage license was also obtained, which lists her as being nearly 16 years old when she was married on Jan. 10, 1948.
The news comes months after Lynn was forced to postpone a number of performances after being hospitalized with pneumonia. Lynn also postponed dates late last year because of knee-replacement surgery.
