Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim is officially reviving everyone’s favorite anime action-block, as Toonami returns Saturday, May 26. Adult Swim made the announcement earlier this week via their official twitter.
Toonami originally ran from 1997-2008. Its programming was anime-centric, running well-loved shows such as Outlaw Star, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. First hosted by Space Ghost Coast to Coast’s Moltar, it later gained mascot and Toonami frontman T.O.M., an animated robot voiced by Cowboy Bebop’s Steve Blum. The exact schedule for 2012 programming is still unknown, but old favorites such as Cowboy Bebop, FLCL and Fullmetal Alchemist are expected to air, along with new additions.
The return of Toonami comes after huge fan response to an April Fools’ Day prank that ran snippets of Toonami segments, including new T.O.M. clips. After admitting to the prank, Adult Swim tweeted, “Want it back? Let us know,” with the the hashtag #BringBackToonami attached. Yes, Adult Swim, yes we do.
