Zooey Deschanel to Star as Loretta Lynn on Broadway

Zooey Deschanel has taken on a new roll.

No, it doesn’t have to do with 500 photographs or playing ‘50s classics with Siri or channeling Mary Kate Olsen. In fact, it will challenge her to embark on the south, the country roots of Loretta Lynn as she will portray the iconic singer in an upcoming Broadway staging of Coal Miner’s Daughter.

Lynn made the big announcement last night at her concert at the Grand Ole Opry. After she brought Deschanel onstage and the two performed a duet together Vulture reported.

“There’s a little girl backstage that’s going to do the play of Coal Miner’s Daugther,” Lynn said.

With the directing, writing and dates of the production yet announced, the event will mark Deschanel’s Broadway debut.
