Grace Potter, Gary Clark Jr. Join Flaming Lips in World Record Attempt
The Flaming Lips have declared they will attempt to break the Guinness World Records title for the most live concerts in 24 hours. But now, they are not alone in this quest. Viacom Music Group has announced the first group of artists to join the band in the eight-stop, daylong tour, which will coincide with the O Music Awards, an event that honors artists and fans who impact digital music culture.
Opening for The Flaming Lips, bands like Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Gary Clark Jr., Hunter Hays, GIVERS, Neon Indian, Grimes and New Fumes will play a full set in select cities.
On board a vintage tour bus named “Endeavor,” the O Music Awards will live-stream the world’s first 24-hour award show on June 27 alongside the The Flaming Lips. They will drive through the Mississippi Delta in an attempt to shatter the record, previously held by Jay-Z. Twenty-four awards will be presented during the stream. Fans can vote from now up until the show at OMusicAwards.com. The categories include “Most Adorable Viral Star,” “Best Online Concert Experience,” and “Must Follow Artist on Twitter.”
In addition to this record breaking attempt, on June 26, the day before the trip, The Flaming Lips will re-release their Record Store Day album, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, which is full of impressive collaborations.
