Dexter "Definitely" Done After 8th Season, Says Producer
Season 7 of the hit Showtime drama Dexter will make its debut on Sept. 30. To get fans excited, a 40-second teaser for the upcoming season was released, hinting that Dexter’s sister Debra, and possibly the police department, will catch wind of his little habit of murdering people.
Whether he gets caught, Dexter’s killing spree will “definitely” not extend beyond an eighth season, one of the show’s executive producers recently told TV Guide.
“This was definite,” executive producer Sara Colleton said when asked if Season 8 would be the end of Dexter‘s run. "We wanted to end it this year, but the network convinced us that it would be best to do it in two years. In some ways, this is a two-season series-ender. We have worked that out and know where it’s going to end. Next year will definitely be the last year of Dexter. Absolutely."
Midway through Season 6, Michael C. Hall agreed to terms with Showtime that would keep Dexter on the air for two additional seasons. Until now, it had been unclear what the show’s fate would be once Season 8 came to a close.
